ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING, NOVEMBER 2006

The Centre's Annual General Meeting was held on Tuesday 7th November at the Queens Oak in Finchampstead near Wokingham and was attended by a small number of members (actually there was one member !!!!!) and the outgoing committee. The formal business for the evening was completed without drama and I am pleased to report that we now have a new committee for 2006/7. Special thanks are due to all those committee members who agreed to serve for another term, and a special welcome to Rowan Diviani and Dennis Horner who were elected as General Members. The full committee can be viewed on the Committee page. Nevertheless, we have regrettably lost a few familiar names from the committee this year. As mentioned in previous dispatches, we were particularly sorry that Nigel Unsworth (Chair & Director) and his wife Liz (Secretary & Treasurer) had to step down mid term, as Nigel's company relocated him to Perth, Australia !!!!! Despite much pleading from the rest of the committee, they insisted that the commute was just a little too far. I don't recall how many years these two have served on the Thames Valley committee, but their contribution has been immense. I doubt if we will ever find couple so dedicated to the club - we'll miss them profoundly .In addition, George Grammer stepped down to spend more time with his new wife and new home, and Alan Cross stepped down  to spend more time with his new wife and old home. There's a worrying trend there...the rest of the committee better watch out.

Sincere thanks are due to all these people for their service to the club. Thank you from all of us.

On the financial front, the Thames Valley accounts remain healthy, thanks to prudent control of expenditure. Next year we hope to plough back some of these funds into members' events.

Membership remains fairly steady around the 200 mark.

Looking forward to next year, we hope to entice more members to take part in our centre events. I have to say that we only seem to attract about 10% of our membership to our events. Where we go wrong, I really don't understand. Those who attend the events always report what a good time was had....come on...why not join us next year? The committee will be meeting again in January to plan a more detailed calendar for the year, so if you have suggestions to make, please let us know.
