22 people and 11 cars took part in a planned drive through the Cambridgeshire Fens starting from the Hanbury Manor Golf Club meandering through the country ‘B’ roads using tulip map diagrams, passing through Bury St Edmonds, Downham Market, Chatteris and Ely. Following an overnight stay at the Wyboston Lakes Hotel, we visited Cambridge for a punt on the River Cam, and a private conducted walking tour passing the well-known colleges such as Queens, Kings and Trinity. The weather did its best to curtail our day of sightseeing, but luckily we managed the chauffeured punt trip in the dry (just), though the walking tour of the city was definitely on the damp side. The homeward journey tested elderly wiper motors to the full.
